Octavius "Ocky" Clark Named Cross Country Coach

SANFORD, Florida - Director of Athletics, Kurt Esser, announced today the hiring of Octavius "Ocky" Clark as Head Cross Country Coach. A true Native son, Ocky was born and raised in Seminole county. A four year Letterman in Track & Field and Cross Country at Seminole high school. In addition to his previous coaching experiences, he has had 32 years of combined military service between the Navy and Air Force.

"I'm excited about turning a new page in the book of life," state Clark who is hitting the recruiting trail already as well as building a fall schedule. Esser added. "Ocky has ran and coached on all levels of Cross Country and he relates very well to young people."

Ocky Highlights:

  • 10 time All American at Santa Fe College
  • Three time NJCAA National Champion at 800m
  • 1983-92 ranked in top 10 in America for 800m -Two time All-American at Florida State University over 800m and 1000m
  • Former Indoor American Record Holder in the 1000m and 800m
  • 1991 Pan American Games Gold Medalist
  • 1995-97 Assistant Track and Cross Country Coach at Purdue University
  • 1997-2018 Head Boys and Girls Cross Country and track Coach
  • During a 20 year span the Winter Springs High School girls team has appeared in the state cross-country finals 16 times and the boys team 13


  • The 2018 Softball team is 49-13
  • Coach Courtney Miller won her 1,000 game during the 2018 season
  • Seminole State is hosting the NJCAA Region 8 Softball Tournament, May 3-6, 2018
  • The 2018 Baseball team finished 24-26
  • The 2017 Women's Golf team finished 2nd at the NJCAA Championships in Duluth, GA
  • Seminole State Golf has finished in the top 3 in the Nation for the last 6 years

About the Seminole State Raiders:

The Raider Athletics Department of Seminole State College was established in 1965 and initially led by Athletic Director and Head Basketball Coach Joe Sterling. Seminole State now sponsors five sports all competing in the NJCAA Division I.  Both Baseball and Softball facilities are located on College Drive on the Sanford/Lake Mary Campus.
