SANFORD, Florida - With only 2 returning full time starters from a record breaking 2017 season, the 2018 squad was not expected to compete for a conference championship or even a state championship.  But team #24 (the 2018 season was the 24th in school history) did both of those and completed one of the most successful seasons both on and off the field. The team finished with an overall record of 52-15, including a 22-2 home record. The Raiders also finished second in the Mid-Florida Conference with a 19-5 record. They qualified for the FCSAA State Tournament and finished 3rd. Their final State ranking was 3rd and 16th in the NJCAA National poll. Off the field, the Raiders had an overall team GPA of 3.51, the highest ever in the history of the program.

  • 1 NJCAA First Team All-American

  • 4 State Players of the Week
  • One perfect game thrown - first in school history
  • Set a new team homerun record with 65, breaking the old record of 48
  • 1000 career wins for Head Coach Courtney Miller
  • 5 graduating sophomores received a scholarship to continue their athletic careers at 4 year programs
  • 16 All-Conference Academic Team members (3.00 GPA or higher)
  • 14 FCSAA All-State Academic Team members (3.30 GPA or higher)
  • 12 NJCAA All-American Academic Team members (3.60 GPA or higher)
  • 12 NFCA All-American Academic Team members (3.50 or above)
  • 4 players with a 4.00 GPA for the year

  • 1st Team All-Conference, 1st Team All-State, 1st Team NJCAA All-American Catcher
  • 1st Team NFCA All-South Region, 1st Team NFCA All-American
  • FCSAA State Player of the Year
  • MFC Player of the Year
  • FCSAA All-Tournament Team
  • 3X FCSAA State Player of the Week
  • Broke 4 school offensive records: homeruns (25), RBI’s (73), slugging % (.953), and total bases (182)

 

Sophomore Kyra Gipson (right)

  • 1st Team All-Conference, 2nd Team All-State Pitcher
  • 2nd Team NFCA All-South Region
  • Academic All-Conference and All-State
  • Threw a perfect game against Miami-Dade College.  First in school history.
  • Signed with Flagler College

 

Sophomore Meghan Sexton

RAIDER NOTES:

  • Chelsea Peace was named FCSAA Softball Player of the Year for 2018. This is the second straight year a Raider has won this award (Jordan Davis in 2017).
  • The 2017 Softball team finished 53-11 and Champions of the Mid-Florida Conference
  • Coach Courtney Miller won her 1,000 career game on March 17, 2018

About the Seminole State Raiders:

The Raider Athletics Department of Seminole State College was established in 1965 and initially led by Athletic Director and Head Basketball Coach Joe Sterling. Seminole State now sponsors five sports all competing in the NJCAA Division I.  Both Baseball and Softball facilities are located on College Drive on the Sanford/Lake Mary Campus.

Women's Golf Christa Teno was recently named the LPGA National Collegiate Coach of the year. Teno was inducted into the NJCAA Hall of Fame in 2017. Her team is currently ranked #1 in the country.
