Christa Teno Named LPGA Southeast Coach of Year

DAYTONA BEACH, Florida - The Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Teaching and Club Professional (T&CP) membership has selected the recipients of annual section Teacher, Professional, Coach, and Junior Golf Leadership awards. Each of the six sections of the LPGA T&CP—Central, Midwest, Northeast, Southeast, Western, and International—winners are selected by the Section Officers and Section Nominating Committee Chair annually in each of the four categories.

The 2018 LPGA T&CP Section Of The Year Award winners are as follows:

  • Central Section - Teacher – Tina Tombs, Professional – Marci Bozarth, Coach – Lisa Strom, Junior Leader – Kelli McKandless
  • International Section - Teacher – Yoshie Koyama, Professional – Ah-Ram Suh
  • Midwest Section - Teacher –Maria Palozola, Coach – Mary Swanson, Junior Leader – Debbie Williams-Hoak
  • Northeast Section - Teacher – Tiffany Faucette, Professional – Kelley Brooke, Coach – Kathryn Schnauel, Junior Leader – Michelle Holmes
  • Southeast Section - Teacher – Dona Lerner, Professional – Judith Alvarez, Coach – Christa Teno, Junior Leader – Mackenzie Mack
  • Western Section - Teacher – Alison Curdt, Professional – Kelley Spooner, Coach – Mary Ritchie, Junior Leader – Jennifer Bermingham

Director of Athletics, Kurt Esser noted, "This is a wonderful honor for Coach Teno. She is a fantastic teacher and our kids always improve throughout their time as a Raider."

The LPGA T&CP National Awards Selection Committee will select the overall national award winner in each category from among the section award winners. The national winners will be announced in the coming weeks.

  • The overall athletic department GPA during 2017-18 was 3.04
  • Seminole State Golf has finished in the top 3 in the Nation for the last 6 years including 2nd in 2018
  • The 2018-19 Returns three All-Americans (Tai, Karn and Sam)
  • Seminole State Golf has finished in the top 3 in the Nation every year since 2009
  • Both 2018 graduates, Erica Chiang (Baylor) and Alex Naumovski (Coastal Carolina) are playing at four-year programs
  • Coach Christa Teno was inducted into the NJCAA Golf Hall of Fame in May of 2017

About the Seminole State Raiders:

The Raider Athletics Department of Seminole State College was established in 1965 and initially led by Athletic Director and Head Basketball Coach Joe Sterling.
