Raiders Post Strong Finishes at ERAU Meet

DAYTONA BEACH, Florida - The Seminole State Men's Cross Country team finished third and the Women's Team placed fifth at the Embry-Riddle Asics Classic on Saturday. The men were one point behind second place finisher Lake Sumter State College.

Yassin Raffay was tops for SSC, placing fifth overall (26:57.33) followed by Hillary Kandie, 10th (27:46.07). Marckoz Arias (29:16.65) placed 21st, James Sellers (29:19.49) 23rd and Matthew Labrato (31:31.69) finished 37th as the Raiders collected their first trophy since the relaunch of the program. 

On the ladies side, Sylvia Jelimo Loreto (21:10.58) lead Seminole with a 9th place finish. Derartu Berrios (22:22.23) and Sara Kopack (22:23.69) were 16th and 17th respectively. Fancy Cheruyot  (23:50.51) placed 32nd and Lisanne Verschuuren  (24:57.51) shaved 22 seconds off of her time from the Mt. Dew Invite.

Seminole State will host SSC Invite on the Lee (Oviedo) Campus of Seminole State on September 27th.


About the Seminole State Raiders:

The Raider Athletics Department of Seminole State College was established in 1965 and initially led by Athletic Director and Head Basketball Coach Joe Sterling. Seminole State sponsors five sports all competing in the NJCAA Division I.  Both Baseball and Softball facilities are located on College Drive on the Sanford/Lake Mary Campus.

Warren is a Sophomore golfer from Lakewood Ranch, FL. In three events this fall she has finished T9, T6 and T25 for the Raiders. An All-American in 2018-19, Warren has committed to Florida Gulf Coast University.
