Oakes Named Softball Excellence Award Recipient

SANFORD, Florida - Freshman catcher, Alyssa Oakes, also known as "Bear," was recently name the Softball Excellence Award Recipient. The award comes with a $1,500 scholarship to help offset the cost of eduction.

Oakes was also named the Mack Blythe award this spring as the outstanding Raider Freshman student-athlete. "Bear" joined three other Seminole State Softball teammates (Jordan Davis, Melanie Murphy and Whitney Foyer) on the FCSAA All-State Team.

About the Seminole State Raiders:

The Raider Athletics Department of Seminole State College was established in 1965 and initially led by Athletic Director and Head Basketball Coach Joe Sterling. Seminole State currently sponsors three sports all members of the NJCAA.  Both Baseball and Softball facilities are located on College Drive on the Sanford/Lake Mary Campus.

Bill Fields, who oversees the Raider Softball pitchers, has been a big part of Seminole State's success for over a decade. Bill is retired from the corporate world and has also coached Volleyball on the club level.
